When we send biological things such as water plant, shrimp or fish, we are really nervous about the death of them. In my case, I pay more attention to the sending of the fish, shrimps and aquarium plants than I really think.

흔히 겨울에 택배를 보내게 되면 정말로 신경이 많이 쓰인다. 혹시나 생물이 죽을까? 필자 같은 경우, 물고기, 새우 그리고 수초를 분양하면서 정말로 생각보다 많이 신경을 쓴다.

It is because when I kept them I have given them lots of affection. I don't want them to die because I make a mistake. If you really enjoy aquarium life well, having this sort of mind is normal. 

왜냐하면, 내가 지금까지 정을 주며 정성스럽게 키운 생물이 한 번의 실수로 죽으면 내 마음도 아프기 때문이다. 진정으로 물생활을 즐겼따면 생물과 정이 드는 것은 당연하다. 

Normally, I don't like to send biological things on a day where the temperature drops to below zero in the winter. From my point of view, it is okay to send a pack with express service. However, you have to show concern. Actually, I do not recommend to send biological things over one day. You are able to send aquarium plants since they can endure the low temperature well. They can survive if you plant them in a good environment again. But I think you should keep it over 0℃ in the package at least. Although I have already sent plenty of biological things, there was no problem. So, I would like to give help to you who want to send biological things. That's why I post this. I can't promise this is the best way to send biological things as this is just my experience. However, with this method, the package was warm yet. Even the hot pack was working after 24 hours.

겨울철 기온이 영하로 떨어지는 날에는 그야말로 택배 분양을 거의 자제하는 편이다. 고속 택배(고택)같은 경우에는 택배를 해도 괜찮아도(그래도 겨울철에는 신경 써야 한다.) 하루가 넘게 걸리는 일반 택배는 거의 자제 한다. 그래도 그나마 수초의 경우는, 온도가 너무 떨어지면 죽긴하지만, 어느정도 낮은 온도에서도 잘 버티기 때문에 겨울철에도 택배 배송을 한다. 좋은 환경에 심으면 다시 잘 살아난다. 그래도 겨울철 온도가 최소 영상만 유지해준다면, 생물을 보내는데 무리가 없어 보인다. 몇 번 보내 봤지만, 아무 탈 없이 잘 도착했다. 그래서 많은 분들에게 그나마 도움이 될까 하고 정성스럽게 포스팅을 하려고 한다. 최대한 나의 경험을 살려서 포스팅하는 것이기 때문에, "무조건 이것이 좋다"라고는 말을 못하겠다. 하지만, 지금까지 사착 없이 잘 도착했기 때문에, 이렇게 글을 써 내려간다. 도착 후에도 받는 분께서 포장 내부가 따듯하고, 핫팩도 아직 따뜻했다는 이유에서 이 포스트를 올린다. 총 배송까지 걸린 시간은 24시간이다.

First of all, Pack what you want like that above and below. The plant above is Mini Pellia (Riccardia chamedryfolia)

처음에 위 사진 처럼 생물 봉지로 포장을 해준다. 위에 포장한 수초는 프리미엄 모스다.

위 수초는 펄그라스를 포장한 것이다.

The reason why I fill water fully is to keep the temperature for a long time because the specific heat of water is higher than the air. Moreover, water has butter effect on the impact. So I think it is better than adding air. Generally, it takes one day to arrive at your destination. Therefore, I recommend taking on time when your post office starts a delivery service.

물을 가득 채우는 이유는 오랜시간 동안 온도를 유지해주기 위해서다. 물의 비열이 공기보다 더 높기 때문이다. 게다가 물은 충격을 흡수하는데 효과적이다.  일반적으로, 목적지까지 하루가 걸린다면, 택배 출발 시간에 맞춰 최대한 늦게 보내주는 것이 좋다. (각 우체국마다 택배 출고 시간이 정해져 있다.)

Now we will pack. You should check if there is any tiny hole in your packages. According to a post officer, polystyrene foam(styrofoam) spouts water outside.

포장을 하기 전에 비닐에서 물이 새는지 확인해야 한다. 우체국 택배 직원의 의견에 따르면, 스티로폼 박스가 밖으로 물을 배출한다고 한다. 

After covering with newspaper, cover with bubble wrap.

신문지로 감싸준 다음, 뽁뽁이 한 번 더 감싸준다.

And then, do the taping.

테이프로 잘 붙여준다.

On the bottom, put your newspaper and then add your packages. Next, put the newspaper like the picture. So as to keep the temperature and prevent impact put newspapers side of packages.

그 다음 스티로폼 박스 안에 맨 처음 바닥에 신문지를 깔아준 다음, 포장한 뽁뽁이들을 넣어주고 위에 신문지를 구겨서 넣어준다. 옆면과 밑에도 잘 구겨서 넣어준다. 충격 방지와 보온을 위해서.

After shaking the hot pack, fix like the picture above. You should tape without any tiny hole to prevent being cold inside. The reason why the hot pack fixes on the cover, not on the bottom. You may think to fix on the bottom rather than on the cover due to convection phenomenon. However, you think about the maximum temperature of this hot pack. it is 60℃. Because of this, it makes a side effect on your biological things. The most important thing is to make the appropriate temperature for your biological things.

위 사진 처럼 뚜껑에 핫팩을 흔들어준 다음 고정시켜준다. 테이프로 고정시키는데 빈틈없이 잘 붙여준다. 찬공기가 바로 들어오지 못하도록. 핫 팩을 뚜껑 쪽에 붙여준 이유는 단순하다. 대류현상에 의하면 따뜻한 공기가 위로 가기 때문에 아래쪽에 붙이는 것이 좋을 수 있다고 생각할 것이다. 하지만, 핫팩의 최대 온도는 최소 60℃가 넘는다. 그 정도의 온도라면 생물에게 좋지 않은 영향을 줄 수 있다고 생각한다. 그렇기 때문에 온도 변화를 최대한 줄여주되, 너무 차겁거나 너무 뜨거워 지지 않도록 해주는 것이 생물 포장의 핵심이다.

This is the last photo. Make the holes (2-3cm) like that before fixing the hot pack because, in order hot pack to work, it needs to contact the air constantly. I hope all your packages arrive at the destination without death.

뚜껑부분에 핫팩을 붙이기 전에 그 핫팩 붙일 위치 위에 구멍을 뚫어준다. 2-3cm가 적당하다. 왜냐하면 핫팩은 기본적으로 공기와 접촉이 되야 계속해서 따뜻해지기 때문이다. 가끔 수족관에서 겨울에 생물을 시키다보면 핫팩을 그냥 흔들어 놓고 넣어 놓는 경우가 많다. 물론 오래되서 식을 수도 있겠지만, 핫팩 내부 성분을 보면 제대로 끝까지 사용이 안되고 식은 것을 알 수 있다. 모든 생물이 죽지 않고 목적지까지 잘 도착하길 희망한다.
