Background History

Hemianthus micranthemoides is a beautiful aquatic plant known for its bright light green coloration and tiny round leaves.

Found naturally growing in the waterways of the Southeastern United States and Central America. 

It remains a popular aquarium plant for aquascapers attempting to create Nature Aquarium or Dutch influenced aquascapes.

Hemianthus micranthemoides is also known commonly as Pearl Grass, Baby Tears, and formerly known as the genus Micranthemum micranthemoides. 

배경 역사

펄그라스는 밝은 녹색과 작고 둥근 잎으로 유명한 아름다운 수생식물이다.

남동부 미국과 중앙 아메리카의 수로에서 자연적으로 성장하는 것을 발견했다.

펄그라스는 자연 풍경의 수조를 만들고 싶거나 더치 스타일에 영향을 받은 사람들에게 여전히 인기있는 수초이다.

Hemianthus micranthemoides는 흔히 펄그라스, 아기눈물로 알려져있고,  이전에는 Micranthemum micranthemoides로 알려졌었다.

Growth Characteristics

Hemianthus micranthemoides is an easy to grow stem plant that will grow well in a wide range of water conditions, tank parameters, and fertilization schemes. 

At the minimum, moderate lighting should be provided to allow the leaves to grow into a rich bright green.  

It can be grown with or without carbon dioxide, and minimum fertilization, but will be grown extensively with these supplements.

Occasionally leaves may turn brown indicating either poor lighting or insufficient nutrients.

The stems will grow to a height of 2-8 inches (5-20 cm) with four tiny round leaves per node.

Propagation is like any ordinary stem plant. 

It can be cut in half with bottoms left in the substrate to sprout side shoots. 

The tops can be replanted. 

성장 특성

줄기식물인 펄그라스의 성장은 좋은 수조환경와 풍부한 비료로 쉽게 잘 자랄 것이다.

낮거나 중간정도의 광량에서 잎들은 풍부한 녹색빛으로 성장하는 것을 가능하게 해준다.

이것은 이산화탄소나 최소한의 거름이 없어도 성장을 할 수 있지만, 이런 요소들이 제공 된다면 더 잘 자랄 것이다.

때때로 잎들이 광량이나 영양 부족으로 갈색으로 변하기도한다.

줄기는 2에서 8인치 (5-20 cm)정도로 자라며,  마디마다 4개의 둥근 잎이 달린다.

번식의 방법은 보통의 줄기 식물과 같다.

펄그라스는 가지치기 용도로 밑동을 남기고 잘라낼 수도 있다. 

그리고 그 윗부분은 다시 심을 수 있다.

Aquascaping Application

Hemianthus micranthemoides is a multipurpose plant that can fit in any part of the aquarium. 

In small aquariums, this plant makes a perfect background or midground plant. 

The small leaf structure will make the aquarium appear larger than it is. 

While in large aquariums, in greater densities Hemianthus micranthemoides can be planted in the foreground or midground to accent and fill holes in an aquascape.

This plant is best planted in small to medium size clusters

Hemianthus micranthemoides response very well to trimming, and can be groomed to grow in a lush bush, or even a more manicured mound such as the ones found in Dutch aquascapes.

In some cases, hobbyists have trained Hemianthus micranthemoides to grow horizontally to form a dense carpet.

High light is needed in order to do this, and regular trimming of the emerging horizontal side shoots.

수조 배경 응용

Hemianthus micranthemoides(펄그라스)는 수족관의 어느 위치에서나 잘 맞는 다목적의 식물이다.

작은 수족에서는 이 식물은 완벽한 후경 또는 중경을 만든다.

작은 잎으로 이루어진 구조는 수조를 실제 크기보다 더 크게 보이게 해준다.

큰 수조에서는 더 빽빽하게 Hemianthus micranthemoides(펄그라스)를 전경과 중경에 심어질 수 있는데, 이것이 좀 더 수조 배경을 돋보이게 하며, 빈 곳을 채울 수 있다.

Hemianthus micranthemoides(펄그라스)는 트리밍에 굉장히 반응을 잘한다. 무성한 덤불로 단장될 수도있고, 더치 스타일 수조에서 찾아 볼 수 있는 깔끔하게 손질 된 덤불도 될 수 있다.

일부는 펄그라스를 빽빽한 카펫처럼 꾸미기 위해 수평으로 자라도록 한 사람람도 있다.

이렇게 하기 위해서 높은 광량과 싹이 수평방향으로 가도록 규칙적인 트리밍이 필요하다.
